What this tool is – and what it is not

First things first: this check is journalistic guidance. It is not legal advice and does not replace a lawyer's assessment of your individual case.

What the check is for

The AI content disclosure check is meant to help you find your way around Article 50 of Regulation (EU) 2024/1689. It covers the most common cases and names the underlying provision for every result, so that you can consult the relevant provision yourself.

What it is not for

State of the law

The check reflects the position as at 2 August 2026. It draws on:

The Commission's guidelines are not legally binding. Binding interpretation of Union law remains a matter for the courts and ultimately for the Court of Justice of the European Union.

Liability

We produce the content of this tool with journalistic care and rely on primary sources. Even so, we cannot guarantee that it is accurate, complete and current. We accept no liability for decisions taken on the basis of this tool. This applies in particular to financial loss.

Liability for links

This tool links to external pages over whose content we have no influence. Responsibility for that content lies with the respective operators. At the time of linking, no unlawful content was apparent to us.

Language versions

This is the English version of a tool originally written in German. Where the two versions differ in wording, the decision logic behind them is identical – it exists only once and is shared by both. Should a discrepancy in the explanatory texts nonetheless arise, the German version applies, and we would be grateful if you told us about it.
